Sam Miller and Matt Badger, two seasoned multi-instrumentalists from the PNW music scene, have joined forces to create Shiprock, a captivating all-instrumental album set for release on Jenny Invert Records. Miller, a prolific pianist, composer, and producer, and Badger, a dynamic drummer and songwriter, first bonded over an impromptu jam session in 2010. Their undeniable chemistry has since evolved into this 9-track masterpiece, recorded in a single weekend at Seattle’s Psychoacoustics Recreational Lab.

Shiprock blends Miller’s evocative compositions with Badger’s rhythmic prowess. The album features standout contributions from cellist Lori Goldston (Nirvana, David Byrne) and flugelhorn player Eric Padget (Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground), who also handled the mixing. The lead single, “Sunglint,” paired with a video by director Chris Cunningham (Danny Elfman, Head and the Heart), skyrocketed to over 1 million views in just two weeks.

With a history of collaborations alongside Seattle luminaries like Ravenna Woods and Benjamin Verdoes, Miller and Badger are ready to bring Shiprock to the stage with local shows and a supporting tour.

Fruition is a performance of songs without words by self-taught, classically influenced, pianist, Sam Miller. The album was recorded on a 100 year old Steinway grand piano in a barn in Sonoma, California - with a single microphone, in a single take. Captured between two Octobers, the song cycle runs parallel to the grapevine's perennial life cycle.
